What it means to have a strong core?

Let’s talk about what core strength means and what it doesn’t mean.

A strong core does not necessarily mean a six pack or even a perfectly flat stomach. Nor does it mean doing a ridiculous amount of crunches or ab curls.

In fact, it has been proven that doing traditional sit ups -like back from gym class days, is not the most effective way to build your core muscles.

These exercises are targeting abdominal muscles, which is important to do, but a strong core means so much more then “six pack muscles”.

What Does a Strong Core Mean?

Core muscles consist of strengthening muscles to support your glutes, lower back, abdominals (including hip flexors and pelvic floor), adductors (outer thighs and hip) and transverse abdominus (deep core stabilizers).

Pilates is known to be one of the most effective ways to strengthen those muscles!

The reason is because Pilates teaches you how to engage the right muscles, in the right way, at the right time. Being intentional with your movements and consistent with your Pilates routine, will greatly improve and build a strong core.
